Question: What is the standard accuracy for the Vortex flowmeter?

Answer:   The standard accuracy for DY (Digital Yewflo) is 0.75% of flowrate/reading for liquids. 1% of flowrate/reading for Gas/Steam.

Question: Can you install a vortex meter on it's side (shedder bar length in horizontal plane)?

Answer: Yes. There are no negative measurement effects with sideways orientation of the vortex. Customer still needs to consider wiring/electrical installation.

Question: What is the difference between communication code "J" and "E" (both of which are HART) in the DY model code?

Answer: The -E code is strictly for HART universal revision 5 communications. The -J code supports HART universal revision 5 or 7, which is selectable prior to ordering and later changeable via a HART communication tool.

Question: What straight pipe requirements/recommendations does Yokogawa have for the digital Yewflo?

Answer: Please see attached images taken from the general specifications (GS) also located in the instruction manual, both of which are accessible through the Yokogawa US site.

Question: Are the YF(Yewflo) style C and E vortex flowmeter still available?

Answer: The current style vortex meter, DY, was introduced around 2000 and replaced all previous versions of the Yokogawa vortex flowmeter. The basic working principle of the vortex meter has not changed in more than 50 years but the electronics of the transmitter have improved greatly. So in some cases, the user may only need to replace the electronic transmitter portion.

Question: Are flange bolts, nuts, and gaskets included when I order a flowmeter?

Answer: No, these should be furnished by the end user. There is an optional code available for wafer units to include stainless steel bolts and nuts.

Question: Can I manufacture or purchase signal cable outside of Yokogawa to use with a remote flowtube and converter/transmitter?

Answer: No, the remote flowtube and electronics were designed for use with Yokogawa proprietary signal cable. Any other cable used would not be guaranteed to meet stated accuracy in the general specifications and would also void any and all warranties.

Question: Are there explosion proof version of the DY available?

Answer: Currently approvals for the DY include; TIIS, FM, ATEX, CSA, SAA, and IECEx. Please see general specifications for more details.

Question: What type of flanges are available on the DY?

Answer: ASME, EN, and JIS flanges are currently available. Others may be available upon request.

Question: What is the purpose of the reduced bore options (R1 and R2) on the DY?

Answer:  The reduced bore DY utilizes concentric reduced bore piping to expand the low flow rate and stability for certain processes by increasing the velocity of fluid flow through the meter. The reduced bore options replace the need for pipe reducers therefore decreasing cost to install.
