Flowmeter Development History
Nov 01, 2018

As early as 1738, the Swiss Daniel Bernoulli used the differential pressure method to measure water flow based on the first Bernoulli equation. Later, the Italian G.B. Venturi studied the flow with a venturi and published the results in 1791.

In 1886, the American Herschel application of Venturi control became a practical measuring device for measuring water flow.

In the early to mid-20th century, the original measurement principle gradually matured. People no longer limited their ideas to the original measurement methods, but began a new exploration.

In the 1930s, there was a method of measuring the flow rate of sonic waves by measuring the flow velocity of liquids and gases with sound waves, but it did not make much progress until the Second World War. It was not until 1955 that Mark applied the acoustic cycle method. The introduction of the Sen flowmeter is used to measure the flow of aviation fuel.

After the 1960s, measuring instruments began to develop in the direction of precision and miniaturization.

With the rapid development of integrated circuit technology, ultrasonic (wave) flowmeters with phase-locked loop technology have also been widely used, and the widespread use of microcomputers has further improved the ability of flow measurement, such as laser Doppler flowmeter applications. After the microcomputer, it can handle more complicated signals.
